Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the complementary and integrative health (CIH) approaches within the VHA Whole Health System of care included in VA Directive 1137 — Provision of Complementary and Integrative Health (recertified December 2022).
This allows acupuncture care to be covered by the Veterans medical benefits package, when clinically necessary, as determined by the patient’s care team.

We frequently treat:

    Back Pain
    Neck Pain
    Shoulder Pain
    Knee Pain
    Headaches
    And More ...

Why Choose Woodlands Acupuncture for your VA Authorization?

Acupuncture is often associated with pain management, but it also may be useful for other conditions, and the body of literature on acupuncture effectiveness is growing by the day. Acupuncture may be effective as a stand-alone treatment or as an adjunctive treatment to other medical interventions. An evidence map of acupuncture was developed by VA Health Services Research & Development (HSR&D) in 2014. This systematic review identified evidence of potentially positive effects for several pain conditions, including chronic pain, and etc.

Acupuncture is generally considered safe when practiced by appropriately trained acupuncture practitioners, like the experienced and licensed providers at our clinic.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the nation’s largest healthcare system, has been at the forefront of implementing evidence-based complementary and integrative health, given their patients’ high prevalence of pains.

How to Request Services Through VA

Accessing no-cost acupuncture for veterans may be as easy as asking your VA primary care provider to see if you qualify and give it a try

Contact your local VA to discuss with PCP/NP

If your VA-affiliated PCP/NP is open to offering (non-drug) alternatives for your health conditions like pain, then acupuncture is a great option, and they may support you by authorizing a series of acupuncture treatments.

VA sends acupuncture authorization that covers sessions at no cost to the Veteran.

Our clinic is always standing by to receive your authorization from the VA. We will contact the VA on behalf of returning VA patients to extend continuing care benefits if requested.

We’ll call you and set up your 1st appointment, if approved by VA.

With our dedicated team of Doctors of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturists at our clinic, we have convenient appointments available for Veterans, including weekends and evenings.
